Should I use Threatfire with Kaspersky anti virus?
Hi, My pc has the following:
2.08 GHz
2 GB RAM
Windows XP (sp3)
Norton Internet Security 2008
Spyware Doctor 6.0.0.386
ThreatFire 4.0.0.8
SpywareBlaster 4.1
MalwareBytes’ Anti-Malware
When my current NIS 2008 subcription expires, I will change to Kaspersky Internet Securuty 2009.
My question is: is KIS 2009 compatible with ThreatFire 4.0.0.8 as I want to continue with ThreatFire as it is a very good program?
Also, it it worth having Spyware Blaster and Malwarebytes\’ anti-malware installed as well as KIS 2009 and Spyware Doctor?
I intend to keep Spyware Doctor.
It sounds like you are very much on the ball when it comes to protecting your system against malware and certainly your choices of sofware make sense.
However I’m concerned your system’s going to struggle with both Kaspersky and Threatfire on your system. Generally it’s not a good idea to be running two scanners at the same time.
While I’m not familiar with Threatfire, it’s likely it will cause problems with Kasperski or any other anti virus simply because Threatfire will identify the anti virus program as acting suspiciously.
It’s good practice not to have more than one malware scanner running at once and I think it would be best to leave one or the other’s automatic protection off and manually run a scan every few days or weeks.
Malwarebytes and Spyware Blaster are good programs as well and it won’t hurt to reguarly run a manual scan using those programs as well.
If you are really concerned about malware then it may be better to be a Limited User for your day-to-day computing. This will stop most nasties getting on to your machine.

Thanks for your answer. I forgot to mention that I have MalwareBytes’Antimalware only as a on-demant scan only (free version)
One more question I would like to ask is which antivirus program would you recommend: Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 or PC Tools Internet Security 2009?
I am leaning towards Kaspersky, but I would like to know the good and bad points of each.
Thanks Tony

Hi, I used to use Norton Internet security before switching to Kaspersky Internet security and I highly recommend it. It blows Norton out the water and is very low on system resources. I also use Malwarebytes with the real-time protection and spyware-blaster and there are now conflicts whatsoever. With regards to ThreatFire, I’ve tried it and it ran with KIS and MBAM with no conflicts either so if you with to use it Kaspersky you can. The only reason I don’t use it is that I’ve brought MBAM and that as real-time protection and with SpywareBlaster blocking bad sites, downloads, ActiveX and cookies I think that is enough protection.
I would definatly get Kaspersky Internet Security rather than just the anti-virus its just perfect and if you’ve been using Norton when you switch to Kaspersky its like having a brand new PC again, its so quick and I don’t get error msg’s like I did with Norton. When I used Norton it used to take quite a while to start up and then it was very sluggish, sometimes it used to freeze and crash when shuting the PC down and if all that was’nt enough every so often Norton used to pop up an error message say to uninstall it and re-install it. I just can’t believe I ran with it for almost 12 months.
KIS all the way, regards Stuart

i have had both pc tools and kaspersky and i like kaspersky better as you have a lot more control of everything whereas pc tools, you just leave it in the background and it does everything for you.
For protection though i trust kaspersky a lot more than i did pc tools

Hi, I have used kis and threatfire both. I would recommend as long as you have KIS installed with Latest updateds, you will no longer need threatfire. Kaspersky is the Best Always. Trust that av and you will forget about viruses and reinstalling xp again and again. Also if you are afraid of stealing data from your pc with trojans or something like that.. no one knows how to solve that problame better than kaspersky, It has high detection and Disinfection rate. Do not use TF4 with KIS anymore(if you dont wana your system down). Worth buying product from Kaspersky Labs.

I always prefer to use Kasperky over Avast or McAfee. Kaspersky is much better in detecting new viruses and it does not consume too much resources on your dektop PC..~~
